Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

The Center for Puppetry Arts brings 1964’s animated TV special to life with this magical live adaptation by Jon Ludwig that will enchant children and give adults a nostalgic glow. The all-inclusive ticket includes admission to the “Worlds of Puppetry” museum and a post-show workshop to build an Abominable Snow Monster hand puppet.

Garden Lights, Holiday Nights

It’s the Atlanta Botanical Garden’s time to shine with its seventh annual “Garden Lights, Holiday Nights.” Featuring synchronized lights, the new Nature’s Wonders display joins such previously scene ones as Walk of Flames, Tunnel of Light, Radiant Rainforest and Model Trains, putting the garden’s regular features in a whole new light.

Snow Mountain

Take a Southern snow day when Stone Mountain uses a man-made blizzard to become a winter wonderland, Snow Mountain. In addition to such family fun as the Snowball Shootin’ Gallery and the Penguin Run slides, Avalanche Alley offers a popular 400-foot tubing slope.

Christmas at Callanwolde

Over the past 40 years, the seasonal celebration at the 27,000 square foot historic mansion and fine arts center has expanded to include a designer show house and holiday village. Christmas at Callanwolde includes tours of the decorated rooms, live entertainment, shopping and, after dark, a light display on the 12-acre grounds.

A Christmas Carol

One of the city’s holiday traditions gets some new packaging when the Alliance Theatre, currently being renovated, stages “A Christmas Carol” at the Cobb Energy Centre. David de Vries returns to the role of Ebenezer Scrooge in David H. Bell’s lavish musical adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic.

The Nutcracker

The Fabulous Fox Theatre provides an appropriately opulent backdrop to the Atlanta Ballet’s spectacular production of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker.” This show gives audiences the last chance to see the “Nutcracker” choreography of former artistic director John McFall before the Atlanta Ballet debuts a new version in 2018.

The Ugly Sweater Run

Good fitness meets bad fashion with the annual Ugly Sweater Run, a 5K race at Piedmont Park. Post-race festivities include Kahlua cocktails and awards for ugly sweaters, pet attire, facial hair and more.
