Synovus announces signed lease in new Cobb office tower

Columbus-based Synovus Financial plans to consolidate much of its Atlanta personnel in a new office tower planned near the new Atlanta Braves stadium in Cobb County.

On Friday, Synovus announced it has signed a lease at the future 1100 Overton, a multi-tenant office building that will rise at Akers Mill Road and Cumberland Boulevard along I-75.

Synovus said it will locate about 300 employees in the office building, and its operations will include a Bank of North Georgia branch and signage for both Synovus and the bank.

Construction is expected to be finished in 2017.

“This new facility will not only provide high-end, state-of-the-art office and branch space for our customers and team members, but will boost the visibility of the Synovus/Bank of North Georgia brand in the Atlanta market,” Synovus spokesman Lee Underwood said in an email.

Synovus announced plans to consolidate its Atlanta area office workers as part of a plan to cut costs and boost efficiency.

TPA Group is the developer of the office building, which will rank among the first Class A or top tier office buildings built in the Cumberland Mall area in more than a decade. The Braves plan to house a Comcast technology center in a new tower next to SunTrust Park, Genuine Parts is planning a new headquarters facility to replace its existing office near the future ballpark. Other developers have pitched new office projects in the Cumberland Mall area.
