Comcast said Wednesday it is rolling out its mobile phone service at its Atlanta retail stores this week as the company dives into the national cellular business.

Xfinity Mobile will be sold at six Atlanta area Comcast retail outlets, and Atlanta is among the first markets in the Southeast where the communications giant is unveiling the service in its stores.

“Our Atlanta customers continue to be early adopters of our latest and most advanced services, so we are especially excited to make this region the first in the Southeast to enjoy Xfinity Mobile,” Doug Guthrie, Comcast’s regional senior vice president, said in a news release.

Comcast uses a combination of Verizon’s wireless network as well as millions of local Comcast wi-fi hotspots to provide the service nationwide.

Xfinity Mobile is offered to existing Comcast customers and data packages can be bundled with Comcast internet service.

Comcast and other major cable providers have been diversifying their businesses and seeking new models in the face of cord-cutters and others who have migrated to mobile and streaming platforms. Customers can also stream Comcast live and on-demand television to mobile devices.

The company said it has almost 200,000 hot spots in metro Atlanta.

The Atlanta area stores are: 3410 Cobb Parkway, Acworth; 7561 Northpoint Parkway, Alpharetta; 3637 Peachtree Road, Atlanta; 699 Ponce de Leon Avenue NE, Atlanta; 2900 Delk Road SE, Marietta; and 1905 Scenic Highway, Snellville.
