Morning Talk: USPS explains delivery issues in Atlanta

If you're the type who checks in on Nextdoor ( the app that connects neighbors), you may have spied a few discussions about mail delivery services in Atlanta.

A conversation thread initiated by Carrie Gale among Intown neighbors received hundreds of replies about shoddy mail services. The complaints flowed in about irregular delivery, late delivery, mis-delivered mail, etc., with particular focus on the Ralph McGill location, according to a report from WSB-TV .

Gale had asked neighbors to weigh in on whether they'd had mail marked as "delivered" when it hadn't been -- the item either arrives after the delivery date or never shows up at all.

On Friday, residents finally had the chance to express their concerns at a public meeting attended by Rep. John Lewis (D-Atlanta) and the Atlanta's Postmaster, Omar Coleman, according to Decaturish . If the USPS website is correct, Coleman (who is not yet listed) is the sixth Postmaster in the last 10 years.

Coleman apologized for the issues, acknowledged that USPS had dropped the ball and vowed to do better. The problems, he said, were due in part to recently hired inexperienced employees and route changes, among other things.

It wasn't clear what the exact plan for improvements would be, but suffice it to say, USPS has its work cut out for it.
