Local Janet Jackson fan reignites Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction effort

In just a few weeks, this year's nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will be announced and a group with local roots has reignited their efforts to get Janet Jackson nominated and inducted.

Last year, Jackson -- who recently postponed her world tour due to pregnancy just shy of age 50 -- received a nomination, but failed to earn an induction.

Jackson has had strong ties to Atlanta in the past. She dated Atlanta native Jermaine Dupri prior to marrying Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana and she has worked on several Tyler Perry films. She was eligible for induction in 2007 but only earned a nomination in 2015.

After the nomination was announced, Litherland and the Janet supporters pressed hard with an open letter to Hall of Fame president Joel Peresman, social media support from other musicians and an InductJanetJackson Facebook page that has grown from 1,000 to more than 100,000 followers.

The latest effort to get the superstar nominated and inducted is a video (edited by Lamont Hicks) featuring 100 fans from around the world with 100 reasons why it's time for Janet to be in the Hall of Fame:
