Chick-fil-A kicks off openings at new mixed-use development, Glenwood Place

Glenwood Place, one of the zillion "shop. dwell. dine." developments popping up in the metro area is kicking things off with the opening of a new Chick-fil-A restaurant on Thursday, June 9.

Three years ago, the mixed-use development located at Bill Kennedy Way and Glenwood Avenue was the source of a big-box conflict between developers and residents, but that is when plans included a possible Wal-Mart.

The latest retailers on the roster are still pretty big, but maybe residents will consider them a little more 'hood friendly including Kroger (also expected to open in June), Waffle House and of course, Chick-fil-A --one of 10 locations in the city of Atlanta.

Naturally, that means a First 100 event is coming as well. So expect to see tents popping up on the grounds of the new development next week.

If you are one of the first 100 adults through the door on June 9, you get a year of free Chick-fil-A meals in the form of a digital card loaded with 52 meals (sandwich, waffle fries and drink).

As always, guests are invited to line up 24 hours prior to opening, pitch a tent and camp out in the parking lot at 401 Bill Kennedy Way NE.

Last year, Chick-fil-A made a significant change to the 12-year First 100 tradition, by restricting store opening events to specific zip codes .

Here are the eligible Zips for the Glenwood Place opening: 30002, 30021, 30030, 30031, 30032, 30033, 30034, 30035, 30036, 30037, 30038, 30072, 30074, 30079, 30083, 30084, 30085, 30086, 30088, 30260, 30272, 30273, 30287, 30288, 30294, 30297, 30298, 30301, 30302, 30303, 30304, 30305, 30306, 30307, 30308, 30309, 30310, 30311, 30312, 30313, 30314, 30315, 30316, 30317, 30318, 30319, 30320, 30321, 30322, 30324, 30325, 30326, 30327, 30329, 30332, 30333, 30334, 30337, 30342, 30343, 30344, 30345, 30348, 30353, 30354, 30355, 30357, 30358, 30359, 30361, 30363, 30364, 30366, 30368, 30369, 30370, 30371, 30374, 30375, 30377, 30380, 30384, 30385, 30388, 30392, 30394, 30396, 30398, 31106, 31107, 31119, 31126, 31131, 31139, 31141, 31145, 31146, 31150, 31156, 31192, 31193, 31195, 31196, 39901.

You must have acceptable proof of your zip code. You must be 18 or older and in line when the doors open at 6 a.m. on June 9 to win. If more than 100 people are onsite when the line officially opens at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, June 8 (which is what usually happens) a drawing is held to randomly select the First 100. Those chosen then must camp out until the grand opening in order to secure their spot.

Just a note to anyone considering this, the most recent event for the re-opening of the Chick-fil-A at Windy Hill in Marietta, drew 70 people the day before opening with the line reaching 100 by 1:30 p.m. And don't forget to take a gently used children's book for the book drive!

In a move to not-so-big-box move, this location of CFA will feature the heritage restaurant design which is a vintage inspired interior that includes a large gathering table made of reclaimed wood, subway tiles and lighting made from recycled Coca-Cola bottles and peach baskets.
