Nothing is more romantic than a wedding and the folks at the Biltmore know from weddings.
This weekend, just in time for Valentine's Day, on Friday Feb. 12, the Biltmore opens “Fashionable Romance: Wedding Gowns in Film,” an exhibition that features more than 40 award-winning costumes from weddings that have taken place in films.
The wedding fashions are the property of Cosprop Ltd., the London-based company that designed last year's "Dressing Downton" exhibition at the Biltmore.
The costumes include 300 years of wedding fashions in films from 1645 through 1935.
Some of the featured costumes come from movies such as “Howards End,” “The Duchess” and “Emma.” Biltmore's floral team has created floral arrangements to accompany the costumes.
While on the property, visitors can also view a display of stories and objects from 60 years of Vanderbilt family weddings including the first-ever display of the wedding veil worn by Mary Lee Ryan Cecil and her cousin Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy. Mrs. Cecil is married to William A.V. Cecil, grandson of George Vanderbilt.
The exhibition runs Friday through July 4 at the Biltmore House. The Vanderbilt family wedding display is on view at Biltmore Legacy in Antler Hill Village on the property.
