Atlantans have the longest and smelliest commutes

Here is a big surprise. In a recent survey by Chase Freedom , Atlantans had the longest, average commute length when compared to 12 other major metropolitan areas.

Atlantans spend an average of 88 minutes commuting to and from work each day compared to commuters in Miami (84 minutes) and Washington, D.C. (74 minutes), the areas which respectively came in second and third for the longest commute times.

Another 21 percent of Atlantans expect their commute to get longer this year. That is pretty bad news considering that Atlanta is also one of the most stressful cities in which one may be commuting -- along with Los Angeles, the Bay Area, and Miami.

Maybe the stress is what drives people to do strange things during their commute such as clipping their nails (16 percent of commuters admit to doing this).

They may be stressed out, but not everyone is miserable on their commute. More than half of the Miami commuters surveyed (55%) said they enjoy their commute. In Atlanta, only 41 percent of commuters said they enjoy the ride.

Oddly, Atlanta seems to have a problem with smelly air. When asked which commuter super power they wished to have, 64% of Atlantans said they wanted "An instant air refresher to get rid of unpleasant smells."

Maybe we can attribute that to Marta riders?
