Georgia artists have the chance to see their work displayed in the new Mercedes-Benz stadium.
AMB Sports & Entertainment (AMBSE), which includes the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta United FC and Mercedes-Benz Stadium, along with the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), are requesting portfolio submissions from local artists.
SCAD was selected in November to commission, acquire and install artwork and memorabilia in the two million square feet of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the new home of the Atlanta Falcons. The open call for Georgia artists is an effort to make sure local art is part of the mix.
Artists of all levels are invited to submit their work in a range of mediums including painting and drawing, photography, sculpture, mixed media and installation and digital art. Themes can include, but are NOT limited to football, soccer, the history and culture of Atlanta and Georgia, fan excitement, and community activity.
“We are looking for local talent to bring a unique perspective to the stadium,” said Laurie Ann Farrell, SCAD’s Executive Director of Exhibition Initiatives in a statement. “If your art has game, we want to see it.”
For consideration, artists should email a portfolio of up to five JPEGs which represent their style, along with an artist statement and CV including contact information.
Send submissions to ATLstadium@scad.edu. Make sure email attachments do not exceed 10 MB. Only portfolios received via email will be considered.
The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. EDT on Friday, February 12. On Friday, April 1, accepted artists will be notified by email.
Selected artists will then have the chance to submit a formal proposal for a potential commission. The final selected Georgia-commissioned works will be exhibited alongside memorabilia and original art from around the world in the stadium’s interior public and private spaces.
The stadium opens in 2017. Here is a drone's view of how construction is coming along:
