Georgia Tech beat Georgia 2-0 at Turner Field on Tuesday to take the season series 2-1. And the Jackets recently received plaudits for the state of their academics . So the spring hasn't been a complete waste.

It has, however, been rough.

Dave Walkosky, who coached Tech's football special teams to positive effect, left the program this month without a real explanation. (Athletic director Mike Bobinski said in a statement that Walkosky chose "to pursue other opportunities." Alrighty then.) Matt Griffin, the football director of player personnel, was fired with cause and left owing the Institute $9,388.35 , according to esteemed colleague Ken Sugiura. Freshman B-back Travis Custis and linebacker-turned-defensive-end Jabari Hunt-Days were declared ineligible for the 2014 season .

And now Robert Carter Jr., Tech's best holdover basketball player, is transferring to ... somewhere . (Apparently he has also decided to pursue other opportunities.) Coach Brian Gregory will enter Season No. 4 minus the two highest-rated players he has signed since coming to Tech in April 2011 -- guard Solomon Poole was dismissed from the squad last season -- and without Trae Golden, Daniel Miller and Kammeon Holsey, all of whom completed their eligibility.

Tech's record in football over the past two seasons is 14-13. Tech's record in basketball under Gregory is 43-52 overall, 16-36 in ACC regular-season play. And Dan Radakovich sits in his office in Pickens County, S.C., and feels good about his decision to become Clemson's athletic director.
