When the musical version of the beloved children's book "Tuck Everlasting" had its world premiere in January at the Alliance Theatre, the hope was that it would eventually make its way to Broadway. Today, that hope became a reality.
According to the Associated Press, the producers of the show said it will open on The Great White Way in 2016 under the direction of Casey Nicholaw, who also directed the Alliance production.
The musical was based on the 1975 children's book of the same name by Natalie Babbitt. The story is by Claudia Shear, a Tony Award-nominee for "Dirty Blonde," and has music by Chris Miller and lyrics by Nathan Tysen, who collaborated on "The Burnt Part Boys."
No word on whether the Alliance cast will remain intact once the musical makes it move. The role of the female lead went to then-10-year-old Sarah Charles Lewis, a Milton resident, after a nationwide search. Carolee Carmello, who played matriarch Mae Tuck, left the production Feb. 5 for a role in Broadway's "Finding Neverland." She was replaced by Beth Leavel.
